I was initially a little nervous about spending a month in rural Japan with strangers doing pottery for a month.
I’ve never lived so remote, and as someone who’s only done a few hours of pottery every week, I wasn’t sure how it would be, and didn’t know what to expect.
But I have to say that this was such a fulfilling, fun and educational experience.
All the staff at Kasen were so warm and welcoming, and we learnt about so many aspects of pottery from making our own tools to visiting a traditional climbing kiln.
But what topped it off were all the fun side excursions like Sensei taking us to his favourite Omakase restaurant, going on walks in the nature close by or going to the onsen.
Also, my favourite part, the studio has a pet tortoise!
I came out of this experience feeling very restored and content and I would love to come back one day.
