Program: 4-week Pottery Making in Seto – With Guidance

I had an amazing experience at Kasen.
I learned new techniques everyday and having a month to practice made it easy to improve.
We made our own trimming and carving tools, threw traditional Japanese tableware, learned how to glaze with oxides, used a chestnut bath, made traditional matcha bowls, teapots, unloaded kilns, tried scalloping, chattering.
I loved watching Sensei making his own work and it was inspiring to be surrounded by the hundreds of pots around the studio.
It was lovely meeting his team (including little tortoise Helmut!) who all looked after us well and were happy to help.
Sensei had great energy and his workshops were fun.
He even arranged some out of studio experiences for us so I felt really immersed in the culture.
He also cooked us a lovely welcome dinner, we went to a pottery supplies shop and a climbing kiln which was so cool to see!
I feel so lucky to have come here and I’m excited to continue making pottery with my new skills.
