I’m very grateful for the rewarding month I spent learning with Hiroshige-Sensei in Seto, Aichi.
Getting to know and working alongside Amber, Hitomi, and Junko was a real pleasure.
It was also inspiring to be surrounded by fellow ceramic enthusiasts each day, and I hope to maintain the international connections I made for my future creative endeavours.
Almost every day in Seto offered new insights thanks to Sensei and Amber-san’s guidance.
What was particularly eye-opening was witnessing Sensei’s dedication firsthand.
Despite his incredibly busy schedule, which included hosting the annual Seto Pottery Trail Festival, teaching university students, and working on his commission work, he remained so accommodating to all the guests learning and staying in Seto.
It was truly awe-inspiring to see how tirelessly he works and how much he has built his company from the ground up.
I’m looking forward to further developing these skills in my own pottery practice, having gained a deeper understanding of the entire ceramic process, from raw material to finished piece, and even learning a variety of traditional Japanese techniques, including how to make my own tools.
I would certainly encourage anyone considering this course to participate and to ask Sensei questions – he is very encouraging and welcomes a curious mind. Thank you for all of the laughs!
