Program: 4-week Pottery Making in Seto

Staying in Seto to study ceramics was a ten year dream of mine before it became reality.
Finally everything lined up and I was able to take a month off to travel to Japan and was accepted into the program.
Acceptance depends on your pottery experience, if you cannot trow a cylinder this is not the program for you, but if you can it is a marvelous experience!
While there my technique improved rapidly under sensei’s guidance.
The work I did my first week there was radically improved by the time I left.
Sensei is a very happy and patient man, he will help you out!
He’s so giving with his instruction and holds nothing back.
His assistants and shop manager are also very kind and generous with their time.
The accommodations are comfortable and Seto truly became my second home while I was there.
Sensei set up many workshops for us from learning about the Tea ceremony and Ikebana to Nerikomi (a personal favorite!) and Raku!
In addition to the pottery, we had time to bond as a group.
I feel I have made some lifelong friends!
We all arrived the same day and spent a lot of time together both in and out of the studio.
Pasta nights, Izakaya trips, various workshops set up by sensei, we even had a karaoke night with the shop manager, Junko!
It’s very easy to get around, there is a bus stop down the street from the studio that goes right to the train station to Nagoya, so even going away on a side excursion is possible!
Personally, I spent a weekend in Nara.
My only regret? That the time passed so swiftly!
I was so sad to leave and return to reality.
I hope in the future to return!
