You will visit Mashiko, one of the most popular pottery localities in Japan, and famous for a spirit of ‘Mingei’ to enjoy making pottery with a wheel. You can fully appreciate the world of a well-known potter, Shoji Hamada by making pottery seeing Hamada’s old house next to his old Noborigama. This program is good for beginners and, with the help of English-speaking professional guide, you will enjoy hands-on fun of throwing a pot..

Tour price per 1 person: 6,500JPY
The price includes:
 - Pottery instruction, facility/tools use, wheel use, materials, *firing fee, guide fee, tax.
 *You can fire only 1 piece, the maximum length of which must be no longer than 23cm. (Those with handles or lids are not acceptable for firing.)
The price does NOT include:
 - Transportation fee to/from the facility, meals, packing service, delivery service. etc.
Pottery facility you use: Ceramic Art Messe Mashiko in Tochigi prefecture
Tour date: Everyday EXCEPT Mondays. (If Monday is on holiday, Tuesday will be out of service)
 - There may be some cases we cannot provide this program due to an irregular occasion of the facility.
Available time: 10:00 – 12:00 / 13:30 – 15:30
Time required: apprx.1.5 – 2hours
 - If you want to ship your works, you need to go to a gallery ‘Toko’ for delivery registration. (The gallery is about 5 to 10 minutes from the facility on foot.)
Minimum participants: 2 persons

Making Pottery in MashikoBooking limit: 1 week prior to the tour date.
Payment limit: Full payment must be completed 1 week before the tour date.

Cancellation fee (Based on Japan time):
 - 7 days to 2 days prior to the tour date: 30% of the tour price
 - 1 day prior to the tour date: 50% of the tour price
 - Cancellation on the tour date: 100% of the tour price (No refunds)

Firing and shipping:
 - The pottery you make will be dried, trimmed, and fired in 1 to 2 months. When completed, it will be shipped from a gallery ‘Toko’. Please pay the packing and the delivery fee by cash when you register the shipping.
 - Since you use natural materials and the works are treated in a very high heat, one out of dozens can crack or break in the process of drying or firing. In the event of your items crack, we will ship the cracked pieces or similar items made by the pottery studio instead.
